Seeing my son every day makes me ask myself what life will have in store for him.
I can only hope that everything I am doing will be for his benefit. Looking at him also makes me look at myself and what I am like as a father.
My most recent work reflects on family and relationships, and about the influence parents have on their children. I look at my own relations, past and present, and at other people’s. I remember for example walking past a father with a little boy on his shoulders, who pointed at a police jeep and taught his child to call the police “black bastards”.
My work is always very personal. I need to be passionate about something to create meaningful and energetic images. Looking at relationships between people, including my own, helps me see beyond my own past. I am starting from fresh as a father and each minute brings something new.
